A lovely surprise

photography with sparklers

On Friday I was on my way home when I saw my hubby asked via fb post if I wanted to go on an adventure, to which I replied 'yes, where?' He said he'd tell me when he got home.

I started fantasizing about the places we could be going to. Is it Brighton? Blackpool? or maybe even Paris? I wish! - I even started thinking about what I would need to pack for this mystery adventure (I would need 2 changes of clothes, some basic skincare and makeup).

When he got home, he showed me some ticket printouts for a Kasabian concert... in Paris!
I got so excited, can't wait to go to Paris! (He knew I'd love to visit one day♥)

So we'll be in Paris at the end of the month for a couple of days, sight seeing, taking lots of pictures and eating macarons of course. We got our transportation and hotel booked so all I have to think about now is what to pack!

Botanics Organic Hydrating Eye Cream

Botanics Organic Hydrating Eye Cream
Botanics Organic Hydrating Eye Cream

Moisturising the eye area is an important step that should be part of your skincare routine, as the skin around the eyes is more delicate and starts showing signs of aging before the rest of the skin on your face.

Botanics Organic Hydrating Eye cream claims to nourish, soften and smooth the delicate eye contour. Also says it instantly hydrates and helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines, revealing more radiant skin.

It contains great nourishing ingredients such as glycerin, sweet almond oil, olive fruit oil, shea butter, rosa canina seed oil and beeswax, all certified as organic.

This eye cream is very light and absorbs quite quickly and effectively moisturises without feeling heavy. It gets rid of any tightness or uncomfortable feeling you might have after removing your eye makeup. It has a light scent that fades within a few minutes and I think it would be a good option for sensitive skin.

If you are looking for a light eye cream that is gentle and moisturising, or you're searching for an organic product, I would recommend Botanics 80% Organic Hydrating Eye Cream.
Find it at Boots here (currently on offer for £5.99, normally £8.99).

I had last week off work, and of course it was nice and sunny, and now that I have to walk by on my own it decides to go back to rainy, windy and cold. Why? :( haha
Over the weekend I got a couple more pieces from H&M (my favourite shop, in case you hadn't noticed) but I still have the 25% off discount card from glamour magazine, so I will be doing some more damage over the weekend. Hopefully I can find the pieces I saw on the website and really liked.

Last month BornPrettyStore contacted me to review some of their products, they have a big selection of makeup, jewellery and even stationery and since I've always loved stationery I decided to select some of their cute pieces.

I chose the little notebook* to keep in my handbag and to write wishlists for when I go shopping. The kitty pen* is really adorable and features a 0.5 mm point and black ink. The lucky bear* booklet contains a set of sticky notes in different sizes, perfect for reminders and to make your notes look more fun.

I also received a set of 4 magnetic bookmarks*, which will be very handy as I always use a scrap piece of paper to bookmark my magazines and books, and since it clips around the page, you can't lose it or it won't come out of your book accidentally.
And last but not least, I got another pen*, this time in a finer point (0.38 mm) and in purple ink.

I love every piece, it's too cute and will definitely be ordering more nice stationary from BornPrettyStore in the future as their stuff is so affordable (all of my pieces came to just over $10USD) and they even have free worldwide shipping.

If you would like to order anything from BornPrettyStore, feel free to use the code NAVILLEC10 to receive an extra 10% off.

Do you share my love for stationery?

Accessorize Oil Slick Nail Polish in Rich Gold

Accessorize Oil Slick Nail Polish in Rich Gold
Accessorize Oil Slick Nail Polish in Rich Gold
Accessorize Oil Slick Nail Polish in Rich Gold

This is one of the items I got when I found the "clearance" makeup section in Tesco a couple of months back. It caught my eye as I didn't have a gold nail varnish and thought I could try it out.

On the Accessorize website these nail polishes are described as having "an oil finish showing a spectrum of colours." Rich gold has a yellow-gold tone to it but when you turn your nails it shows a nice rose gold effect, which I really like.

The formula is quite durable (I used a base and top coat), though the brush is not that amazing, so you need a couple of strokes to fully paint each nail, and since the formula is slightly textured with tiny shimmering particles, you can sometimes see faint streaking on your nails.

I quite like this nail polish and will be experimenting with it a bit more, as I saw a pictured that inspired me recently.

White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

White Musk Smoky Rose Eau de Toilette

A couple of months ago I entered a competition to win a White Musk Smoky Rose EDT by The Body Shop and I received a voucher to exchange it for a 30 ml bottle in store.

I thought I tested it in the shop but I had picked the wrong one (the lady at the till got the right one for me), so when I first tried it when we got home I wasn't very keen on the smell as it reminded me of some sort of food, but after a couple more times spraying it on the following days it started to grow on me.

This product is described as a "daring and mysterious fragrance in a light eau de toilette, featuring an intoxicating blend of cruelty-free musk with notes of black smoky rose and tobacco flower".
When I apply it I can definitely smell a hint of rose, but only initially, as it soon changes into a warm, deep woody scent.

I think this could be more of an evening scent, or it would be great if you are into warm and woody scents. This fragrance is quite long lasting, even though is only an eau de toilette, but there is also a perfume version available.

Nivea Light Moisturising Day Cream

Nivea Light Moisturising Day Cream

As we know, we need to protect our skin from the harmful UV sun rays in order to keep it looking young and avoid wrinkles and dark spots. I only started wearing day creams with SPF a few years ago but I won't be without it now.

This time I decided to give Nivea Light Moisturising Day Cream a try, as it mentions that moisturises and protects for a fresh skin feeling, and also contains SPF 15. Having being blessed with oily skin, I went for the "normal & combination" version of this day cream as the one for oily skin does not provide any sun protection (why do they do this?!).

Nivea Daily Essentials Light Moisturising Day Cream is enriched with vitamin E, Lotus extract and Hydra IQ; and claims to provide intensive moisture, help protect from sun damage thanks to its SPF 15, and refresh the skin.

What I noticed the first time I used it was that the consistency is not very light (well it is a day cream) I thought it would be more like a lotion because of the light in the name. Then I realised it is heavily scented, and the perfume lasts almost all day which I don't like.

It does moisturise and protect from the sun but I wish this was lighter in texture, more mattifying (perhaps the oily/combination version would do that?) and less perfumed. I think people with normal or even dry skin would benefit from this product the most, but stay away if you are fragrance sensitive.

Overall an average product and I don't think I would buy it again as it doesn't help control shine, unfortunately.

review dove hair therapy argan oil palmolive shower milk vaseline handcream nivea deodorant simple wipes night cream blance me cleanser
review dove hair therapy argan oil palmolive shower milk
vaseline handcream nivea deodorant
simple wipes night cream blance me cleanser

Dove Nourishing Oil Conditioner: contains a blend of argan, coconut and almond oil to help smooth and nourish hair. It leaves my hair soft and smooth and I think it also helps a bit with frizz. It's quite affordable and most of the time on offer. I would buy it again.

Palmolive Nourishing Shower Milk: it's enriched with moisturising milk and extracts of honey and aloe vera. It is very creamy and lathers nicely, leaving skin clean without the tight feeling. Smells nice and my skin feels soft after using it. Would buy again and try different scents from this line, and maybe the bath milks as well.

Dove Nourishing Oil Express Treatment Conditioner: like the conditioner, contains argan, coconut and almond oil and helps battle frizzy hair. Comes in a "dual action formulation" - the gold stripe contains the oils for nourishment and the white stripe seals cuticles. It recommends you use it daily however I used it once a week instead of the normal conditioner as a hair mask, leaving it on for a couple of minutes. It leaves hair soft and since it's very affordable I would buy again.

Nivea Pearl & Beauty Roll On Deodorant*: contains pearl extracts and 0% alcohol, so it would be good for sensitive skin. Claims to give 48 hour protection but haven't tested it for that long. It's ok but after long using it, towards the end of the bottle it started to lose effectiveness. It was a gift but I prefer spray deodorants, so probably wouldn't buy again.

Vaseline Compressed Active Fresh Deodorant: alcohol free and suitable for sensitive skin. Claims to keep you dry all day long and is lightly fragranced. This bottle has 75ml and is supposed to last as long as the 150 ml one, I think it actually does, but it was hard for me to get the product out as the button thin is quite hard. It works but I didn't love it so probably wouldn't get it again.

Vaseline Hand and Nail Lotion: contains keratin and provides multi layer moisture. It is very affordable (especially on offer) and helps get rid of my dry skin. Would like to try the aloe version. Read full review here.

Simple Regeneration Day Cream: contains nutrients and vitamins to protect and replenish skin throughout the day. Good for sensitive skin. It is a bit heavy for my oily skin so I don't think I will be getting this again, however it is a great moisturiser with SPF 15. Full review here.

Simple Cleansing Facial Wipes*: doesn't contain alcohol, oils, artificial perfume or colour. Good for sensitive skin. They work well for removing makeup superficially however I'm not a big face wipe fan as I like to feel my skin is thoroughly clean so probably wouldn't buy again. Full review here.

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash*: aimed at normal to combination skin, with 98.8% of ingredients from natural origin. It smells amazing, you only need a small amount and cleanses skin very well without drying it out. It was a free sample but would love to use again. Full review here.

Burberry Weekend Women EDP

Burberry Weekend Women EDP
Burberry Weekend Women EDP

Burberry Weekend was the first perfume that I actually bought for myself, I had a couple I'd received as gift but mostly I used body sprays (Body Fantasies Vanilla to be exact haha). As I had a gift voucher and this perfume was on offer, I decided to get it and only paid £2.50 for it!

Burberry Weekend, as the name suggests, features a more casual packaging and reflects the relaxed personality found in the outdoor spirit of the Burberry Brand. I like the simplicity of the bottle, the check pattern and the matte effect metallic lid with engraving on it.

The fragrance is described as a "sparkling citrus floral fragrance enhanced by the unique combination of Tangerine, Sap and Reseda plant". The fragrance family is citrus-floral with notes of delicate florals like wild rose, red cyclamen and peach flower blossom, mixed with deeper scents of blue hyacinth, iris and nectarine. There is also added cedarwood and sandalwood with a touch of musk.

To me the notes that stand out the most are the citrusy nectarine and the peach blossom, making Burberry Weekend's scent more fruity than floral, but delicious nonetheless. I find that this fragrance is quite warm but is suitable to wear in the winter as it is during the summer. I really like this perfume because it is long lasting, smells great and is fairly priced.

White Fur Jacket

Fur Jacket: H&M (similar)
Contrast collar jumper: Topshop (similar)
Knitted dress: H&M (similar)
Tights: Pretty Polly (similar)
Leather loafers: Miss Selfridge (similar)

I love this white fur jacket that I got last year for Valentine's, but this season H&M have come up with a longer white, black and pale pink version of it and you can still find it in store.
There is quite a few different "styles" that I love so I don't think I could ever stick to just one. Lately I've been loving masculine inspired pieces, but I also like to dress in a more feminine way. Since discovering Orla Kiely's AW13 collection I just got obsessed with her designs, and the retro vibe is so charming.
For spring and summer I will be trying to recreate her looks with more affordable pieces that remind me of her work; and speaking of Orla Kiely inspired pieces, the other day when passing H&M I saw a pale pink shirt with a tiny black heart print all over it, very similar to this piece. When I went back the next day it was almost completely sold out! I couldn't believe it haha but I got the last available one in a size smaller than normal, but since is quite loose fitting I can get away with it ;D

What are your plans for your spring & summer wardrobe?
