Sanctuary Spa at Savers

Sanctuary Firming Youth Serum

I love it when I find a great bargain (because who doesn't like saving money) but I also like sharing my findings with you!

On this occasion Savers did it again - I was looking in their beauty aisles when I spied a little Sanctuary box: their Firming Youth Serum for just £3 so I got one for my mum and will very probably go back to get one for myself.

The Sanctuary Firming Youth Serum helps skin look firmer and lifted while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It also protects the skin thanks to a blend of antioxidants and vitamins that restore hydration and softness.

This serum retails normally for £15.50, so you could even get them as stocking fillers if you are still looking for something to give this Christmas.

Yesterday I went all the way to London by myself for the first time! I was a little bit nervous but it was all good. I went to meet my cousin as we hadn't seen each other in a while and we did a bit of shopping and had some lunch at Pret a Manger. Tomorrow I'm going to sign the contract for my new job, so quite excited about that. Have a nice weekend!

Holiday Party Look with Only 4 Products

Fast Holiday Party Look

While looking through a magazine I saw this picture of Georgia May Jagger for Thomas Sabo jewellery and I instantly became obsessed with her make up, thinking it would be a great option for the holiday party season. For this look I would only use 4 products:

Eyes
Using Bourjois Smokey Eyes Trio Eyeshadow in Gris Party, apply the silver shade from the inner corner to the middle of your upper and lower eyelid. Then use the black shade to smoke out the outer corner and define the eye, blending to avoid harsh lines. Finish with a couple of coats of L'oreal Paris Volume Million Lashes Mascara on upper and lower lashes to make them stand out. What I really like about Bourjois eyeshadows is that they are very long lasting and crease resistant even without a primer on my oily lids, and this L'oreal mascara doesn't budge even though it is not waterproof.

Lips & Cheeks
Since the main focus of this look is the eyes, the rest of the make up is very subtle and natural looking. So for the lips I would use Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia, which I love because it's super moisturising and leaves my lips feeling soft with a sheer tint and slightly glossy looking. I'm not normally one to pay much attention to cheek products but if the strong eye look washes you out you can always apply a bit of the tinted lip balm onto cheeks to add a bit of colour.

Nails
Last but not least we have nails. Using a couple of coats of Cheeky Chat Me Up Nail Polish in Take Me Chrome, your nails will have that nice festive look without the need of hours of your time and patience normally required for nail art designs, so it's super easy to achieve a chic party look very quickly. Personally I prefer short nails as they are more comfortable, hygienic and look more chic, but of course you could go with longer nails as this nail polish would look great on them too.

Will you be trying this look for your holiday parties?

Effaclar 3 Step Anti-Blemish System

Effaclar 3 Step Anti-Blemish System

Last month I got contacted by the people at La Roche-Posay and I was lucky enough to receive a set of the new Effaclar 3 Step Anti-Blemish System. Having used and written about Effaclar Duo in the past, I was really excited to try this kit.

The Effaclar 3 Step Anti-Blemish System comprises 3 quick and easy steps - effective alone but when their specific active ingredients are combined within a regime, offer great results even on sensitive skin. The system targets blemishes, pores, excess sebum, uneven & rough skin texture and red & brown marks.

Step 1: Cleanse
The Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel removes impurities, purifies using zinc pidolate to target excess sebum and soothes thanks to La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. You only need a small amount as it lathers very well, and after using it my skin feels clean without tightness or dryness, and it also leaves it feeling soft and smooth.

Step 2: Tone
New to the UK market, the Effaclar Clarifying toner is meant to smooth the skin using salicylic and lactic acids for a gentle exfoliating action, mattifies thanks to oil absorbing silica, and soothes with the use of allantoin, glycerin and La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. After cleansing I apply the toner onto a cotton pad and gently wipe over my face. The toner effectively makes my skin look matte and I've noticed that my pores look cleaner and smaller.

Step 3: Correct & Hydrate
The final step is the best selling Effaclar Duo [+], which is designed to target the marks usually left by blemishes with the procerad ceramide, correct thanks to niacinamide and piroctone olamine to combat bacteria, unclog pores using LHA and salicylic acid, and soothe with La Roche-Posay thermal spring water. I apply a thin layer of Effaclar Duo [+] all over my face and it leaves my skin feeling soft and moisturised. I found that the original Effaclar Duo helped reduce marks without claiming to do so but this one seems to have improved the look of marks on my skin even further.

The kit mentions that it lasts 6 weeks however it lasts way more than that, even when the cleanser included in the pack is smaller than the one available separately, and I wish the toner was also available to buy on its own as you might finish one product before the others, but other than that I really enjoy using using the Effaclar 3 Step Anti-Blemish System as it is helping clear my skin up (I was having some bad breakouts a few weeks ago) without irritating it and would definitely purchase the set.

After over a year, we're finally going back to visit Mexico next month! Even though it's winter it will be much less cold than it is over here, and where I'm from it doesn't snow so it should be all good.
I think we might go shopping to the US for the day like last time or maybe even stay the night over as it's only a 2 hour drive away. Can't wait to have some of our world heritage food again haha! (Yes, Mexican food is my favourite).

Julian Casablancas + The Voidz

Julian Casablancas and The Voidz

On Sunday we went to see Julian Casablancas + the Voidz at the Coronet in London.
Even though we got there quite early there was already a massive queue waiting outside so our chances to see them first row were quickly crushed.

We stood on the side by an exit/smoking area and needless to say we were freezing throughout the whole concert as the door seemed to be always open.

The concert was really good, they opened with Instant Crush (Julian's collaboration with Daft Punk) and played mostly songs from Tyranny with a couple of older songs thrown in, amongst them Ize of the World and the demo version of You Only Live Once.

During the encore Julian actually came off the stage and went into the crowd as I stood in disbelief and almost cried wishing I had been closer.

I didn't take any pictures as it was quite dark but got almost the whole of one of my favourite songs in Tyranny, Human Sadness, on video.

Long Evening Dresses for Holiday Events

Are you as excited as me about holiday season? I think I've mentioned before how much fun I think it is dressing up for a special occasion, and at WeddingShe they have elegant dresses in long lengths that are great for evening dinners and other events.

The pieces they have at Weddingshe look like designer evening dresses: the left one pictured above has so much detail in the embroidered flowers that give texture at the front, and with the sparkly sequins it reminds me of a 20s type of dress. The dress on the right has also a lot of detail but this time it's only concentrated on the top part of the garment: it features a lace and sequin top that conceals cleavage and shoulders.

This black dress is so beautiful and elegant, and reminds me of something Audrey Hepburn would wear. The sweetheart neckline has a gorgeous lace overlay that covers the shoulders as well as adding some texture, and the classic black colour makes it suitable for any occasion. The dress on the right has a low v-neck cleavage which is cleverly concealed with an embellished sheer layer underneath. Just as the black dress, it has a sash in the same fabric that enhances the waist and the ruching on the top half gives it delicate texture. The colour makes it great for weddings and any events where you want to stand out from the crowd.

For some ideas on how to style these dresses check out my previous post and don't forget to take a look on WeddingShe to find more long evening dresses.

Holiday Party Outfit & Nails

Holiday Party Outfit

Be it Christmas or New Year's parties, they're both great excuses to get dressed up and look and feel amazing! I love a classic little black dress, and I know it's a basic piece but that doesn't mean it has to look boring.

The lace fabric and pleated skirt add interest to the dress, the nude pumps add height and elongate legs, while the bag and earrings add some sparkle. But let's not forget the nails - a deep burgundy is such a great colour for this season. A platinum chrome polish can be used as an accent on ring fingers to draw a little gift bow.

Nair Argan Oil Shower Power Cream

Nair Argan Oil Shower Power Cream

Recently I got sent the Nair Argan Oil Shower Power Cream to try and review. Nair Argan Oil Shower Power Cream is a hair removal cream that can be used in the shower and promises soft & smooth skin for up to 7 days and contains argan oil, jojoba oil and cocoa butter which makes it great for dry and sensitive skin.

To use it you have to apply a thick layer onto clean skin and leave it on for 1 or 2 minutes before entering the shower. Then wait 3 more minutes avoiding too much exposure to water on the areas covered with the cream, after which you test a small area with the spatula included. If the hair still doesn't come off easily wait a few more minutes, without exceeding 10. After removing the cream with the spatula you rinse the skin off without rubbing or soap. Remember to test a small area 24 hours before using this product.

When I used the Nair Argan Oil Shower Power Cream, I applied it on my legs and for it to do its job I had to wait the full 10 minutes, but after that the hair did come off easily and left my skin very smooth and soft. I would say that the effects lasted about 4 days or so which is comparable to shaving minus the use of blades and irritation.

I quite liked the results of this product, as it is painless, easy to use and effective but I felt like I needed too much product when using it on my legs, which means there is only a couple of uses in a tube. It might be better value if used for smaller areas such as bikini line and under arm.

Find Nair Argan Oil Shower Power Cream* in Boots and Superdrug.

I quite like this outfit, it's inspired by a picture I've seen on pinterest recently of someone with layered dainty necklaces and a cream knit under a leather jacket.
